5 Years of Never-Ending Innovation — Happy Birthday Cardano!

Five years ago today (September 28, 2017), the Cardano Blockchain was born. Five years later, the blockchain has gone through many iterations and improvements (including the recent VASIL hard fork). But what is next?

[Matsuo Bashō](en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matsuo_Bash%C5%8D "en.wikipedia.org") was a haiku poet in Japan’s Edo Period

Basho | Scaling:

From Cardano’s roadmap, the Basho era is said to improve the overall scalability and interoperability of the Cardano network. The network will achieve this by using new sidechains that will be interoperable with the main Cardano chain. This will offload some of the transactions and smart contracts from the main chain onto these sidechains. While the main Cardano chain will continue to use a UTXO model, the sidechains can be built using other ledger models and enable new application scenarios (like an EVM Sidechain).

Voltaire was a French philosopher from the Age of Enlightenment

Voltaire | Governance:

The Voltaire era is tentatively Cardano’s final era. This era will create a voting system for Cardano users to be able to vote for changes in the network (using improvement proposals). Funding for new developments and other humanitarian causes (like the Catalyst Project) will use funds from the treasury system, which recieves small amounts of ADA from every transaction fee. This governance system will allow Cardano to adapt and adjust itself in the future in a decentralized way.

Cardano is an ever-evolving blockchain supported by in-depth peer-reviewed research and a passionate developer/user community. Cardano’s is poised to become an advanced, secure, and efficient blockchain of the future.
